Tutor Vista featured on NBC?

Just to show how dumb television has become, NBC is endorsing Tutor Vista to get help for kids in school.

After seeing how Tutor Vista really operates, I disagree, and NBC should be ashamed for not doing *their* homework.

They are also preying on the fear that America will be "overtaken" by India in some way. Perhaps the problem is your kids aren't trying hard enough to learn on their own and follow their passions, rather than just trying to please whoever is around.

Rebilling Fraud

There are reports online that after the introductory fee charges, at $49.99, some consumers have been billed up to $199 for the recurring monthly fee. Note, this is even if you don't use the service, which is then free money for Tutor Vista. This "service" smacks of fraud, never mind the other practices outlined below.

Plagiarism at Tutor Vista

Apparently, if you pay enough money in addition to your subscription, they will write papers for you as well.

[ 12:02:41 AM ] : how much does it cost to write term papers?
[ 12:03:35 AM ] Tutor : This is a demo session where we will be shpwing you how we help our students.
[ 12:03:50 AM ] Guest : ok
[ 12:06:15 AM ] : can I pay you on the side to complete papers for me?
[ 12:06:28 AM ] : what is the fee?
[ 12:06:44 AM ] Tutor : we do write papers for the students.
[ 12:06:58 AM ] : One moment,I will let you know about the fee.
[ 12:06:59 AM ] Guest : what is the pricing structure for a paper?
[ 12:07:01 AM ] : thanks

As seen before, these guys will probably just grab a paper from the internet to make a quick buck. That's great except that almost every teacher over grade 5 will be using some sort of plagiarism testing software which will see right through this scam. You get left $100 poorer and your kid gets an F. Sounds like a great deal to me!

Views from Around the Web

Seems like I'm not the only one that thinks Tutor Vista is crap.

$100 a month for content that is on the web for free. What will they think of next?!

Take your kids to your local university or high school and get some real tutoring. This is complete garbage.

Example

Someone asked a question at Tutor Vista, and the reply was straight from Wikipedia. It must be nice to pay for what is already free.

Chat log:

And as you can see, here is the Wiki article that is WORD FOR WORD the same.

Absolute trash.

Tutor Vista is A Scam

http://www.tutorvista.com/ is an obvious attempt to monetise content from Khan Academy.

It is the same idea, as well as the same content, just regurgitated by another group of people from India.
