Tutor Vista featured on NBC?

Just to show how dumb television has become, NBC is endorsing Tutor Vista to get help for kids in school.

After seeing how Tutor Vista really operates, I disagree, and NBC should be ashamed for not doing *their* homework.

They are also preying on the fear that America will be "overtaken" by India in some way. Perhaps the problem is your kids aren't trying hard enough to learn on their own and follow their passions, rather than just trying to please whoever is around.

  2. Wow, sometimes I wonder how little it takes to make one of these segments. It's like they do zero research before throwing it on the air.

  3. Sadly, unless you work in a domestic market that cannot be globalized or outsourced somehow over the internet (like law, medicine, etc), I would have to say that India is definitely a threat to the US economy, despite whatever woes may be incurred by poorly tutored individuals from Tutor Vista. Honestly, America cannot compete with India purely because of the difference in cost of living. And it is mostly the result of Americans b!+c#ing about high prices - which drives companies to look for 3rd and 4th world markets. So I incredibly disagree with the assessment that kids are just not trying hard enough. Some people do not have the capacity to learn on their own. They need a guide and a helping hand, and often they will be better off for it. Economically speaking, when you have a tutor who will charge you $2 an hour and can get the job done at a satisfactory level vs. someone who charges $20 an hour, then you go with the $2 an hour. Translation industries are being crushed by Indian based companies in the same manner. These people do not have the language skills -but rather end up outsourcing the work right back to some sucker in the west who really can't afford to work under Indian wages, but does it anywhere because... there's just no other way to get work. Anyway... I have rambled on for far too long. Globalization is something that will keep people in internationally competitive jobs poor forever.
